Information: Ralph Smith Morgan was born in Pleasant County, Va., 30 May 1843, was brought up on a farm and attended the private schools of the day.  He was the second son of Judge and Mrs. Isaiah Morgan, who being an ardent Union man, at the beginning of the Civil War, sent two of his sons to the front.  Ralph enlisted April 1862 in Co. E., 10th W.Va. Infantry and from the beginning proved himself to be brave and true to the Union, always ready for any duty assigned him, winning the favor of all the officers, and the love and confidence of his comrades.  In the great and bloody battle of Winchester, 19 September 1864, in the grand charge on the enemy's line, Co. E. lost, killed and wounded, 24 out of a total of 49.  In May 1868, he married Virginia, daughter of Thomas Coleman of Muses Bottom and to them were born six children, four of whom survive.  Died 17 May 1911.  (From the Betty Kessel McIntyre collection)
