Information: Funeral services for William Miller, aged Ripley resident, were held at the Oak Hill church last Friday afternoon, under the directions of Rev. Herold of the Baptist church, who was assisted by Dr. Fred Slaughter of the United Brethren church. Mr. Miller died last Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock, after an illness of about three years of dropsy. His condition had been considered serious for some time. He was 79 years of age. He was born in Catlettsburg, Kentucky and came to Ripley when only a lad of 14 years and spent the remainder of his life here. Fifty-two years ago, September 15, he was married to Selia Jane Rhodes, who with the following children survive: Mrs. Sue LeVassar of Cincinnati, Ohio; Mrs. Ellen Grand of Colcord; James Miller of Parkersburg; Harry Miller of Colcord; and Florence Ross of Red House. He was a devout member of the Baptist church and a man who was held in high esteem by his friends and acquaintances. The pallbearers at the funeral were: Charles F. Ong, George W. Johnson, Johnson Rhodes, Wilbur McGraw, Rossie Parsons, and Walter F. Wendell. [Betty Kessel McIntyre obit collection]
