Death Notice:

Obituary Date: 1935-07-26

Information: Little Pauline Michaels, 4 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Michaels of Skull Run, Grant district, was killed instantly at the home last Thursday afternoon when she ran in front of a rifle which was used in target practice. Death was instantaneous.  The little girl's father and William Holley, of Sandyville, were target shooting with a .22 caliber rifle.  One had been holding the little girl while the other would shoot.  Holley took the gun for his shot and was at the wellhouse taking aim.  The little girl came around the wellhouse directly in the path of the bullet as the gun was fired.  The bullet passed through the skull.  Young Holley had been working for his grandfather, D. G. Cain, and he and the child's father had been helping each other with the farm work.  Last Thursday they were working on the Michaels farm and after the noonday lunch they went out in the yard to practice shooting with the rifle.  They shot several times and it was the last of their cartridges which killed the little girl. She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Michaels; her grandfather, Otto Michaels, and a baby brother, Bobby Michaels.  The funeral services were held from the home last Saturday afternoon at 1 o'clock and the body was taken to the Ravenswood cemetery for burial.  [from the Betty Kessel McIntyre obit collection]
