Information: Perry Roosevelt Merritt, Sr., 87, of Ripley WV, passed away August 31, 2014, in CAMC General Division, with his family by his side.  He was born October 3, 1926 in Parkersburg WV, the son of Freeman C. and Dora Opal (Cunningham) Merritt.  His sister, Ora Morris, also preceded him in death.  He was a World War II and Korean War United States Army veteran.  He was a graduate of Glenville State College and held degrees in business and public health.  He was a retired administrator of the Jackson County Health Department with nearly 30 years of service.  He was a former member of the West Virginia Board of Sanitation, and the Ripley City Council.  He was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church, Ripley, and he enjoyed woodworking and gardening.         Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Betty Jean (Daniels) Merritt; sons, Perry Merritt, Jr. of Ravenswood, and Barry Brian Merritt of Kenna; daughters, Kimberly Lynn Merritt, and Candice Renee Davis, both of Atlanta GA; sisters, Agnes Parrill, Doris ""Liz LeMac"" Boggs, and Della ""Babe"" Davis, all of Spencer; grandchildren, Megan Renee Davis, Jamie Lee Davis Peyton, and Brittany Marie Merritt; and great-grandchildren, Ethan Michael Davis and Holden Peyton.  Service will be 1 p.m. (today) Thursday, September 4, 2014, at Casto Funeral Home Chapel, Evans WV, with the Rev. Herman Robinson officiating.  Burial will follow in Jackson County Memory Gardens, Cottageville WV, with military honors by American Legion Post #107, Ripley.  Visitation was 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the Jackson County Library.  Email condolences may be sent to castofh@gmail.com.
