Obituary Date: 1913-11-28
Information: A shotgun in the hands of Mrs. Ola Fisher was accidentlly discharged, instantly killing Roseburg Merrical, 20, unmarried, at her home seven miles south of here Sunday night. Merrical attended church at Sinaville that evening and, in company with Miss Kelly, who makes her home with the Fisher woman, and his cousin, Roy Merrical, went to the Fisher home. The three were seated around the fire in the sitting room when Mrs. Fisher stepped into the adjoining room to make a bed upon which the gun was lying. A moment later the report rang out and Merrical fell across the feet of his cousin with a horrible wound in the left side of his head. The jugular vein was severed causing instanteneous death. After placing the young man on a couch, Dr. George Simmons was summoned. Coroner Boggess was notified early Monday morning and made an examination, exonerating the woman. The two women live alone. Before starting to church, Miss Kelly loaded the gun and with the hammer back left it on the bed. Mrs. Fisher picked it up and turned to place it in the corner when it was discharged. The remains of the young man were interred in the Grass Lick Cemetery Monday evening in the presence of a large crowd. (McIntyre)
