Information: John S. McKown, aged 89, and for half a century an outstanding business figure of Parkersburg, and a former owner of Blennerhasset Hotel in that city, died in a hospital there. Death came suddenly. He had been a patient in the hospital since late June and had been showing slight improvement in recent weeks. He was taken to the hospital just before his 89th birthday last July 3. His daughter, Mrs. Freling Foster, of New York, the wife of the editorial writer for Collier's Magazine, came to Parkersburg and remained with her father about a month but had returned to New York after he began to show improvement. Mr. McKown had served as president of the Old Traders Building and Loan Association in Parkersburg for many years but retired from active business several years ago. He was born in Ripley and went to Parkersburg when a young man where he entered the business field. He was the oldest living alumnus of Ohio University and was honored in Athens, Ohio, in a special celebration last winter. He is survived by two children, Mrs. Foster, of New Yourk, and Fred McKown, who has been the city forester at Colorado Springs, Colorado for past 30 years and also two sisters, Mrs. Lucy King, of Ripley, and Mrs. Ellen McKown Perry, of Tulsa, Oklahoma
