Information: Mrs. Bessie Blanche McKown was born June 11, 1883, and departed from this life at 6:30 p.m. March 16, 1922; age 38 years, 9 months, 5 days. She was united in marriage to Grover C. McKown by Rev. B. M. Keith, pastor of Epworth Church at that time on November 15, 1903. Two daughters, Frances and Lucille, bless this union, now being members of the freshman class of the local high school, whose welfare was the mother's highest desire and ambition and are now the father's only solace in this sad bereavment. As a wife she was always desirous of her husband's welfare and best interests, ever ready to be a helpmate in the truest sense of the term; as a mother her devotion and untiring efforts for her daughters could not be surpassed and as a home maker and house keeper her equal is seldom found. She united with the M. E. Church, South, at Pleasant Hill, the scene of her girlhood days more than a century ago, later, transferring her membership to Epworth Church on becoming a resident of this town, being a regular and faithful attendant at its services for the past several years. Mrs. McKown was one of those quiet, unassuming Chistians that was at all times ready to assist her neighbors for the good it would do rather than the praise she might receive and lived an exemplary life for the precedent it set before her family and acquaintances, ever keeping in mind the great goal in life of making one's heavenly heritage better and more glorious by so doing. Her brilliant testimonials and earnest efforts exerted in the recent revival in this town are unanswerable evidence of the high plane of the relationship her spirit had with its Maker and is the best proof of the abode of her soul today. Surviving her besides her husband and daughters is her aged mother, Miss Fannie Bowles, several other relatives, a host of friends in this and surrounding communities, who deeply deplore her demise and sympathize with her family that have sustained a severe loss, but who have the satisfaction of knowing she has an abode not made by earthly hands and the blessed privilege of meeting her over there. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. L. West of Parkersburg at the Epworth church at 2 p.m. Sunday. Rev. West delivered an elegant sermon to a large gathering of relatives and friends. A large and beautiful collection of flowers were given by the K of P order, Epworth church, the two daughter's high school classes and their Sunday school class, the family and a number of individuals. The K of P order marched in body in the funeral procession. The body was laid to rest in the Pine Hill cemetery.
