In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son.  The body was cremated and a Memorial Service will be held at a later time.  Memorial donations may be made to Jackson General Hospital Cardiac Rehab Center, P. O. Box 720, Ripley, WV 25271.  Vail Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.         In memory of Walter Charles Beyer, age 73, died September 30, 2003.   Walter Beyer moved to Fairplain in Jackson County in 1973 and lived on Plum Orchard Road. Walter and his wife, Nancy, moved on Plum Orchard at a time when traveling in and out of the road was not easy.  At the time, Plum Orchard was a mud road; it was easy in dry weather, but if the water was up, then Walter had to travel the long way out to Belgrove, then Kenna, and back to Ripley, instead of the shorter route on Grasslick Road and to Ripley.  It was the time that Walter Beyer became a man with a cause.  I called him the ""Mayor"" because he would go to the Dept. of Highways in Ripley everyday to try and get something done about the condition of Plum Orchard Road.  Walter would call the Dept. of Highways in Charleston and the district office in Parkersburg each day to try to get someone to listen.  He would clean the trash up along the road and take it to the highway office for disposal--the highway officials didn't much care for this--but then he was doing their job for them.  Walter succeeded in getting the road fixed and you can drive on it in all weather conditions.  I hope that the families that have moved in since Walter are benefitting from his efforts and will continue to make sure the road is maintained and kept clean.  Walter was a good neighbor and friend to all.  He would do things for all people up and down Grasslick and Plum Orchard Road.  He would stop his truck and help anyone that needed help.  We will miss him.   Friends of Grasslick and Plum Orchard Road.
