Information: UNCLE GUS MCGREW TAKEN BY DEATH - Funeral services for A. W. McGrew will be held from the home in West Ripley......this Thursday afternoon with the Rev. Fred Slaughter of the Ripley United Brethren church in charge and burial will be in the Pine Hill cemetery.  The Vail mortuary has charge of the funeral plans. Mr. McGrew, one of the two remaining residents of Ripley who could remember the history of the town since it was a small village.  Augustus Walker McGrew, 86, died at 1:15 o'clock Wednesday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Edith Ong, in West Ripley.  With J. M. Wright, also of a venerable age, the two were frequently consulted when information concerning the early part of Ripley was needed.  Affectionately known to the younger generations of the town as ""Uncle Gus"", he had been failing in health for some time, but as late as last week had come over to Ripley in an automobile to visit his many friends.  ""Uncle Gus"" was born at Angerona May 15, 1853, a son of John and Susan DeOrmand McGrew.  He moved to Ripley about the time of the Civil War.  He was a miller by trade and assisted in building the Ripley mill and many of the older mills along Mill Creek.  He was united in marriage with Jane Hall and to this union were born the following children, who survive:  F. A. McGrew of Charleston, Mrs. Elizabeth Mathes of Charleston, Hobert McGrew of Charleston, Mrs. W. K. Bright of....., J. B. McGrew of New Haven, and Mrs. Edith Ong of Ripley; twenty grandchildren and .....great-grandchildren.
