Death Notice:

Obituary Date: 1935-10-04

Information: Mrs. J. E. Bever, age 57, died suddenly at her home near Medina in Grant district last Friday morning about 9 o'clock.  She had been ill for about a week but members of the family and relatives believed that she was recovering when she collapsed suddenly and died within about ten minutes.  The general opinion was that she suffered a stroke.  The funeral services were held from the home on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock and the body was taken to the Ravenswood cemetery for burial.  Rev. Albert Poling had charge.  Surviving are the husband, J. E. Bever; six sons, Naaman Bever of Medina; Frank and Kenneth of Williamstown; Delbert Bever of Ravenswood; Harlan and Ray Bever, at home;  three daughters, Mildred Stalling of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; Mrs. Ireta Kittle of Sandyville, and Mrs. H. G. Slaven of Ripley.  Two brothers, Wilber Duval of Waterford, Ohio and Delbert Duval of Zanesville, Ohio, and one sister, Mrs. Myrtle Gale, also of Zanesville.   [4 Oct 1935]      Ollie Anne, daughter of Benjamin and Catherine Lincicome Devall, was born near Caldwell, Noble County, Ohio, April 27, 1878 and departed this life September 27, 1935, being 57 years, 5 months of age.  She grew to womanhood in the community in which she was born, affiliated with the Free Methodist Church, later in life uniting with the M. E. Church to which she clung in her faith and belief her life long in which sustained her through hours of sadness and pain. In 1895 she came to this neighborhood on a visit to her Uncle Levi Lincicome's family and while here met her future husband, the attraction was mutual, and on November 5, 1896 they were united in marriage and set up a home in this community in which they lived until now, the dread reaper has dissolved the partnership.  Born to this union were ten (10) children, the youngest, Grethel Corine, preceded her mother into the great beyond some 13 years ago.      The survivors are:  Mrs. Glenn Slaven of Ripley, Mrs. Wayne Stallings of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and Mrs. Tracy Kittle of Sandyville; sons, Naaman, Delbert, Ray and Harlan, all of Ravenswood, Frank and Kenneth of Williamstown,  and the grief stricken husband.  Of her father's family survive three brothers, Delbert of Zanesville, Ohio, Wilbur of Beverly Ohio, and Harry of Chicago, Illinois.  A sister, Mrs. Edward Gale of Zanesville, Ohio, also survives.  She was feeling indisposed for several days but thought little of it until Saturday evening the 14th when she was stricken seriously ill.  Medical attention, nursing and loving interest could not avert a fatal end and on Friday the 27th she heeded the call to enter eternal life.  Funeral services were held from the home by Rev. Albert Poling of Sandyville, assisted by his daughter, Miss Lahoma.  The scripture lesson ""The Wise Man's Discription of a Good Woman"", from Proverbs, was most singulary appropriate for her and the singing of the three familiar songs led by Mrs. McKinley Weekley of Sandyville was beautifully rendered.  The floral tributes were many and elaborate and a large crowd bore mute evidence to the respect in which she was held in her neighbors hearts.  Among the mourning relatives were 19 grandchildren, one grandson being laid away to await the Lord's coming last summer.  To the sorrowing husband who realizes he has lost a worthy helpmate and companion and to the heart saddened children who will miss her welcome on their visits home, the deep sympathy of their friends and neighbors is given.   [18 Oct 1935]   [Betty Kessel McIntyre obit collection]
