Obituary Date: 1915-05-14

Information: Following an illness of only eight days, Charles H. McGraw, residing on the Greer farm near town, died at 1 o'clock Wednesday afternoon of acute dilation of the stomach and typhoid fever, age 48. On Wednesday of last week Dr. Noyes was called to the home and pronounced his illness as typhoid.  He was getting along nicely until Tuesday evening when complications set in and his condition became alarmingly worse.  Dr. Rymer was called in consultation with Dr. Noyes Tuesday night.  Drs. C. O. and H. H. Staats and S. W. Bull were called from Spencer Wednesday morning and reached the bedside a few minutes before the end. Mr. McGraw moved to Ripley from Roane county about three years ago and immediately became an influence in business circles of the community and was acquainted with a number of local oil companys. He leaves an estate of $160,000 or $125,000 including $25,000 life insurance. He was a progressive christian gentleman and an esteemed citizen.  Mr. McGraw was an elder in the Advent church and served eight years as secretary of the West Virginia conference.  Before coming to Jackson county he served as a member of the Board of Education in Roane county. The unexpected death of Mr. McGraw, apparently in good health and with many years of usefullness before him is deeply deplored.  He is survived by his wife, seven sons and five daughters.   (unable to read section on survivors)  Services were conducted by Rev. Herbert Spencer of the Advent church, the remains were interred on the farm at 11 o'clock this morning.   (Obituary from the Ada Ruth Sayre collection--photocopy difficult to read)
