  <p>Information: Elva May McDermott, 93, of Mt. Alto, departed this life Wednesday, August 8, 2007, at Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Pt. Pleasant.  She was born February 19, 1914, in Mason County, a daughter of  the late Charles and Willia Durst Stephens.  She was a farmer, wife and mother. She was orphaned at age  nine and, along with her uncle, raised her brothers and a sister. She later married and raised a daughter. Following the death of her husband, she operated the family farm by herself until the age of 80. Survivors include her daughter Doris Ann Savage of Mt. Alto; granddaughters Shannon Savage of Teays Valley and Carmen Savage of Ashville, OH; great-grandchildren Karl Durst and Kima Durst King and Randy Parsons and, great-great-grandsons Scott King, James Allen King and Alex Parsons. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Parkison Darrell McDermott; brothers Lloyd Stephens, Ross Stephens and Donald Stephens; sisters Lena Keefer and  Vera Edwards and grandson Allen Durst. Services were held Friday August 10, 2007, at Casto Funeral Home, Evans, with Rev. Gerald B. Sayre officiating. Burial followed in Jackson County Memory Gardens, Cottageville.       	 </p>
