Information: Joseph McCoy, the oldest man in this section of the state, died Sunday morning at the home of his son, C. H. McCoy, near Letart, Mason county, after having attained the remarkable age of 99 years, 4 months and 14 days.  Mr. McCoy was born November 7, 1815, near Williamsburg, Greenbrier county, Virginia, (now West Virginia), where he resided until 1859, having in the meantime united in marriage, November 22, 1842, with Miss Amanda Hill of Campaign county, Ohio, when he moved to Jackson county, settling on a farm on the Charleston Pike two miles south of Ripley.  His wife departed this life December 4th, 1882.  In 1906 he moved with his sons to Mason county where he has since resided.  Mr. McCoy possessed a remarkable memory, retaining his mental faculties until the last.  His health was excellent despite a fall several years ago, caused from catching his foot on a hoop in the dark, which resulted in permanent injury.  He was apparently well until the day before his death when he sank into unconsciousness from which he never rallied.  Deceased is survived by seven children:  Mrs. Mary Park of Buffalo, William McCoy, who resides in the West, J. W. McCoy and C. H. McCoy of Mason county, Mrs. G. B. Casto of Ravenswood, Mrs. Levi Casto of Ripley and Mrs. W. M. Walters of South Dakota.  The remains were taken to the home of Mrs. Casto Monday night.  Funeral services were held from Mt. Calvary Church Tuesday morning, Rev. J. W. Martin officiating.  (McIntyre)
