Information: James Vernon McCoy, 80, Ravenswood, a former sheriff, state senator and delegate from Jackson County, died Oct. 29, 1988, at St. Joseph Hospital, Parkersburg, after a short illness.  McCoy was born in Jackson County and was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church, Ravenswood.  He was a Mason.  He was a former schoolteacher in Jackson County with 10 years' service and was formerly on the Jackson County Board of Education.  McCoy formerly operated a dairy business. He was active in farming.  Surviving:  wife, Sherry McCoy; daughter, Ann Lovern of Jonesboro, Ark.; sons, David of Flatwood and Richard of Washington, W. Va.; sisters, Kathleen Hoy of Durham, N. C. and Constance King of Lewisburg; brothers, Conrad of Ravenswood, John of Millwood and Dan of Morgantown; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.  Graveside service was Tuesday at Jackson Memory Gardens with the Rev. Allen Stewart officiating. Straight-Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
