Information:      William Bryan Mays, 60 year old former Clerk of the Circuit Court of Jackson County, and for many years a prominent businss and political figure of the county died at his home in Ripley early Friday, June 2, 1957, morning from a heart ailment after an illness of several years.   Mr. Mays was born May 30, 1897, at Kentuck, a son of Frank Mays, now a resident of Kenna, and the late Leva Skeen Mays.  He grew to manhood there and for a number of years was  teacher in the public schools of the county, and later entered the mercantile business at Kentuck and operated a store there for many years.  He was elected Clerk of the Circuit Court of Jackson County in 1932 and served one term of six years in that office.  after he retired from public office he was engaged in the insurance and real estate business here.  He was also a partner in the Mays Funeral Home in Ripley which was in operaton for several years before it was sold to the Parsons funeral directors.  He was a World War I veteran, a member of the American Legion, the Goshen Baptist Church, Ripley Lodge F.M. & A.M., the Odd Fellows lodge of Ripley, and a Shriner.  Survivors include his wife, Faye Duff Mays; two sons, Paul Mays of Ripley and Oscar Mays of Hamilton, Ohio; his father, F.B. Mays of Kenna; a brother Foster Mays, also Kenna, and a sister, Mrs. D.M. Fields of South Charleston. The body remained at the Parsons Funeral Home here until time for the funeral service at the Goshen Baptist Church on Sunday afternoon.  Rev. Varil Winter officiated at the service and the burial with the Parsons undertakers in charge was in the church cemetery.
