Information:      Prominent Ripley resident Lee S. Mays, 92, died Suday, June 16, at Ravenswood Care Center after a short ilness.  A native of Kentuck, he was born December 7, 1898, a son of the late James Henry and Mary Elizabeth Hatcher Mays.  He was a member of the West Virginia Poetry Society, National Federation of State Poetry Societies, Mark Twain Society, Lousville Poetry Club, and the county poet's organization which carried his name, The Lee Mays Poetry Society.  He was an active member of the Jackson County Historical Society and The Filson Club, a historical organization .  He was also a member of the Association of Retired Civil Service Employees.  Mr. Mays attended Marshall College in Huntington and Capitol City Commercial College in Charleston.  He was a self-taught linguist in eight languages.  He was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of Kiwanis International.  He was a member of Ripley Baptist Temple in which he was deacon emeritus and Sunday School teacher.  He was a member of Railroad Retirement Board and a former teacher.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Osa Dudding Mays (May 18, 1899/May 8, 1982.)  Survivers include several nieces and nephews.  Funeral service will be held Wednesday morning, 10 a.m.. at Ripley Baptist Temple, with the Rev. Mike Morris officiating.  Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park.  The body will lie in state at the church one half hour before service.
