  <p>Information: Joseph Edwin Mays was born in Monroe county, W. Va. March 18, 1863 and departed this life Feb. 19, 1941.  Being at the time of death 77 years, 10 months and 23 days old.  Having lived in the county in which he was born a number of years, he then came to Charleston and spent the rest of his life in and near that city.  He was a contractor and carpenter and there stands many monuments of his handiwork, one being the church near his home in which he and his good wife worshiped.  He leaves to mourn, his widow, Mrs. Bessie Mays; one son, Edward Mays; three step-children, and many other relatives and friends.  He was the son of Edwin Pierce Mays and Sarah Howard Mays and is the last one of that family.  He was a half brother of James A. Mays, Confederate soldier of the Civil War, who preceded him in death several years ago, and who lived in Jackson county.  Written by Mrs. M. E.
