Information:               James Woodrow MASON, 30 years old of Dunbar, was killed instantly about 5:30 Friday afternoon when his automobile plunged down an embankment and overturned on 18 Mile Creek Road, several miles west of Kenna.  The body was removed from the wreckage and was brought to the Parsons Funeral Home in Ripley where it was prepared for burial.  The funeral services were held from the New Jersey School House in Putnam County on Sunday with Rev. Arthur LAYMAN of Ripley in charge and burial was in the WARNER Cemetery.  The Ripley Post of the American Legion had charge of the military funeral which was held, MASON being a veteran of WW II.               Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Violet THORNTON MASON; two daughters, Doris and Phyllis; his mother, Mrs. Isabelle LEGG of Dunbar; two brothers, Carl and Robert of Dunbar and two sisters, Mrs. Betty SIGMON of Red House and Mrs. Marie NULL, of Given.  Friends of the family said that MASON had been employed at the Fletcher Enamel Plant in Dunbar and that he was visiting in the 18 Mile Creek community when the tragedy occurred.               James Woodrow MASON son of James and Isabelle MASON was born April 25, 1917 in Kanawha County and departed this life on Dec. 5, 1947.  He was united in marriage to Miss Violet THORNTON of Putnam County in Oct. 1943 and to this union were born three children, two of whom survive, Doris and Phyllis.  The father and one brother preceded him in death.  (from the Betty Kessel McIntyre obit collection)
