Information: Henry W. Mahan, long an official of Jackson County in one capacity or another, died on Thursday of last week following a long illness  He was 72 years of age and up until a few months ago had been active in his farming interests.  Mr. Mahan was a deputy sheriff of Jackson County for sixteen years, serving during the administrations of Sheriffs J. O. Shinn, D. W. Rhodes, R. P. Shinn and J. A. Shinn and the three surviving sheriffs on whose staffs he served spoke highly of him as a citizen and as an official who gave the best he had to the public service.  He was also supervisor of Union District roads for a number of years.  The deceased is survived by the widow; two children, John R. Mahan of Califormia and Mrs. F. W. Pringle of Odaville; one brother, C. D. Mahan of Parkersburg and one sister, Mrs. A. C. Hemsworth of Pennsboro.  Seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren survive.  His first wife, Carra Ong Mahan died in May, 1893 and four children by the former marriage also preceded him in death.  On November 4, 1923 he married Hannah King Fugate who survives.  The funeral services were held at the Otterbein Church last Saturday afternoon at two-thirty o'clock under the direction of Dr. B. E. Harrison and burial followed in the Otterbein Cemetery.
