  <p>Information: DELAND FL - Karen Skeen Alford, 47, of Deland died June 13, 1999, in Orlando from cancer.  She was a writer and editor, having published numerous magazines and newspapers.  She was born in Charleston, daughter of Harry (Buster) and Ruby Lupardus Skeen, received a bachelor&#39;s degree and a master&#39;s degree from University of Central Florida, and was a member of Toastmaster&#39;s International.  She was Toastmaster of the Year in 1998-1999, and a member of St. Peter&#39;s Catholic Church, Deland, Florida.  Surviving: husband, George Edward Alford, Jr.; daughters, Jacquie Alford of Winter Springs, FL, Maeve Alford of Altamonte Springs Fl; sons, Denis Alford and Kevin Alford, both of Deland; mother Ruby Skeen of Evans WV; brothers, Keith and Kenneth Skeen both of West Virginia; one grandchild.  Independent Funeral Services, Orlando, is in charge of arrangements.</p>
