Information: KILLED WHEN AUTOMOBILE IS DEMOLISHED - Mrs. Cora Lively, 50 years old, was instantly killed about four o'clock Monday evening at a railroad crossing near her home in Grand Bay, Alabama, when the Crack Southern Flyer struck her automobile as she drove across the track. A telephone conversation with persons in Grand Bay Monday night developed the fact that Mrs. Lively had finished her school work for the day and had driven into Grand Bay to secure repairs for her Delco light plant and was returning to her home at the time of the fatal accident. She had turned into her private driveway which crosses the railroad track when she drove in front of the speeding locomotive without apparently ever seeing it. The body was removed to the Sails Undertaking establishment in Moss Point, Mississippi, only a few miles away and Mr. Lively telegraphed relatives at Ripley the sad news. The body left Grand Bay at noon Tuesday and is expected in Huntington at one-ten Thursday morning and funeral services will be held there sometime Thursday, with burial in the family plot in a cemetery in that city. Mrs. Lively was a daughter of Mrs. R. P. Shinn of Ripley and for a number of years was a member of the Ripley high school faculty. A few years ago she went to Alabama where she has since been engaged in school work. She visited her mother each summer since she has been in the south. Friends pointed out Monday night that the family had its share of tragedies. The father, Senator R. P. Shinn, died suddenly in Charleston while attending a session of the state legislature; Marion Lively, the son of Mrs. Lively, was accidentally shot while playing at the home in Ripley about twelve years ago. Mrs. Lively's father-in-law and mother-in-law were both killed in a railroad crossing accident a few years ago. Surviving are the husband, Clarence Lively of Grand Bay; one son, Lanier Lively of Charleston; her mother, Mrs. R. P. Shinn of Ripley and the following sister and brothers: Mrs. D. J. Rogers of Fairplain, J. B. and W. W. Shinn, both of Fairplain. The first news of the accident came in a telegram late Monday evening which read as follows: Grand Bay, Alabama November 27,1933 Mrs. R. P. Shinn Ripley, W. Va. Cora killed at railroad crossing 4 p.m. today. Will ship for Huntington at noon tomorrow. Signed, Clarence. Later Monday night the Herald located Mr. Lively by telephone at the undertaking establishment in Moss Point, Mississippi where the body was taken and learned the other facts in connection with the accident.
