Obituary Date: 1947-12-12

Information:   Benjamin Litton, son of Abraham and Louisa Litton was born Sept. 2, 1880 at Gay, Jackson County, West Virginia and departed this life Dec. 8, 1947, aged 67 years, three months and six days.  On June 28, 1908 he was united in marriage to Ola Staats, who still survives.  To this union were born seven children, namely Delmer Litton of Charleston, Mrs. Velma Clawson of Cleveland, Ohio, Mrs. Vesta Whited of Parkersburg, Grover and Clive Litton, at home.  Two children died in infancy.  He is also survived by seven grandchildren, three brothers, William Litton of Gay, Levi and Clint Litton of Charleston; three sisters, Mrs. Leora Cox of Evans, Mrs. Malinda Phillips of Liverpool, Mrs. Josephine Greenleaf of Charleston.  His father and mother, three brothers and two half brothers and one sister preceded him in death.  He was converted many years ago in a revival meeting at Gay under the direction of the Rev. A. A. Napier.  He lived and died in the triumph of a living faith.  For many years he was an honored and loyal member of Gay Lodge, No. 205 IOOF.  Twenty-six years ago he was overtaken by disease and was physically weak the remainder of his life.  He bore his suffering patiently.  He was an honest and industrious man and was held in high esteem by all those who knew him.  He was a devoted father, a loving husband and all are left assured that he has gone to the Eternal City where there is no sickness, no sorrow and no pain.  The funeral was held at Gay church Wednesday and burial was in the Parsons Cemetery nearby.  The Vail Funeral home was in charge with Rev. L. C. Thompson and Rev. Dutch Guthrie officiating.
