Information: CHARLES LEWIS COUNTY'S FIRST HIGHWAY FATALITY - Jackson County recorded the first highway fatality of 1973 with the death Saturday of Charles Cleveland  Lewis, 77, of Evans, who was injured in a two-car accident Friday afternoon on South Church St. in Ripley.  According to the report by Ripley Police Chief Robert Fay, who went to the accident scene at 2:45 p.m., Lewis was driving a 1963 Ford car, and the orther car involved was a 1968 Chevrolet driven by Holly E. Terrel, 53, of Parkersburg.  Lewis, who suffered multiple injuries, and Terrell, who received a head cut and abrasions, were taken to Jackson General Hospital.  Lewis was transferred about a half-hour later to Charleston General Hospital, where death occurred Saturday.  Terrel was treated and released at Jackson General Hospital.  Chief Fay said Terrel related that he was driving north on South Church St. in the vicinity of the Daniel Boone Restaurant when Lewis' car cut in front of him and struck his vehicle head-on.  Both cars were reported a total loss.  Funeral services for Charles Cleveland Lewis were conducted Tuesday at the Casto Funeral Home at Evans with the Rev. Wade Simons officiating.  Burial was in Otterbein Cemetery.  He had been employed in the trucking business in Cincinnati, Ohio, for 27 years and was previously employed by the Ford Motor Co. for 25 years.  A native of Parchment Valley, Mr. Lewis was a son of the late James N. and Nancy Taylor Lewis.  He was a member of the Longview United Methodist Church.  Survivors include his widow, Nellie Donohew Lewis, and one sister, Mrs. Aleeta Stewart of Pittsburgh, Pa.
