Information: Max Wendell Lawson, Sr. of Greeneville TN, passed away Friday afternoon, February 13, 2015, at the age of 87. He was born August 4, 1927 in Huntington WV. Max joined the U.S.Navy at the age of 17 in 1945. He served on the island of Guam where he was on Admiral Nimitz' staff. He again served in the Korean War after being called up with the Naval reserves in 1951. He initially attended the University of the South at Sewanee. He then transferred to Marshall University, and ultimately settled at West Virginia University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, with a minor in Business. He met Barbara Hoke, the love of his life, at WVU in 1950. They married in 1951. Max's first job out of the military was with his uncle, Joe Lawson, in Princeton WV, as a labor relations consultant. He entered the automobile business in 1956 when he began working for the Chevrolet division of General Motors as a district manager in Clarksburg WV. Bliss TX, Abby and Audra Lawson, both of Greeneville; three great-grandchildren, Kannon, Addie, and Dash; sister-in-law and her husband, Frances and Stan Jeranko of Costa Mesa CA; several nieces and nephews; caregivers, Sandra Boles, Shellie Cutshaw, Jim Laws, and Sharon Cutshall. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Leonard Blaine Lawson Jr and parents, William Blaine Lawson and Orza Lawson. The family received friends from 3-6 pm on Tuesday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at 1 pm Wednesday at Asbury United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jerry Jones officiated. Interment with military honors followed in Greenelawn Memory Gardens. The Greene County Honor Guard conducted the graveside service.
