Information: Claude S. (Smokey) Lawson III, 65, of Ravenswood WV, was called home by the Lord on Saturday, January 14, 2012, in Huntington WV after a prolonged illness.  Smokey was born in the Smokey Mountains TN on June 25, 1946 to Helen Lawson and Claude S. Lawson II.  He married Terry West on June 25, 1976, and was a public school educator since Januray 1969, spending the last 33 years at Ravenswood Middle School where he taught 7th grade Social Studies.  Smokey joined the Ravenswood Lions Club in October 1970, and was a dedicated Lion for 42 years.  During his time as a member, he served as the secretary, vice president and president.  Smokey helped create the Student of the Month program.  Smokey was awarded the Melvin Jones Award, the highest award to be given in Lionism.  His interest included politics and current events and he sang in the various choirs where his wife was the church organist.     Raised in Fairmont WV, Smokey is survived by his wife, Terry; his son, Dave West; his stepmother, Alice Lawson; his cousin, Thomas Prickett; his nieces and nephews, Maggie, Brett, Chad Zivic, Katy and Andrew Lawson.  He is preceded in death by his mother, Helen Lawson; father, Claude S. Lawson II; brother, George Lawson; and sister, Lee Ann Zivic.  He was a graduate of Fairmont State College and WVU.     A memorial service will be held at the Second Baptist Church in Ravenswood WV on Saturday, February 25, 2012, with Pastor S. R. Parsons, Jr. officiating.  Visitation will begin at 1 pm unil the service at 2 pm.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Claude ""Smokey"" Lawson Memorial Scholarship Fund at WesBanco, 2 Wall Street in Ravenswood WV.  There are too many people to thank.  The citizens of Ravenswood have taken our very small family and turned the community into one big family and we thank you all.  Smokey was very proud of where he lived.  Please know that he was the same loving, funny, good-natured person until the end.  Condolences may be expressed to the family at roush94@yahoo.com.  Roush Funeral Home, Ravenswood WV, is in charge of arrangements.
