Information: Melvin G. Lane, age 65, died at his home here near midnight Tuesday after a two week illness. Mr. Lane, who operated a shoe repair and harness shop on Main Street for many years, had been in poor health for some time, and while his condition the past few days had been serious, his death came as a shock to his many relatives and friends. Mr. Lane was born near Ripley on April 20, 1876, a son of the late Daniel A. and Sarah Jane (Patterson, widow McCraken) Lane, died July 16, 1941. On April 15, 1906 he was united in marriage with Docia B. Casto and for many years was engaged in farming in this county. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Lewis A. Lane of Hebron, Ohio, and Wilmer R. Lane of Sandyville; three daughters, Mrs. Mildred Carver of East Liverpool, Ohio, and Sylvia and Frances Lane, at home. Two children died in infancy. Two brothers, M. Lewis Lane and Samuel G. Lane, of Ripley, a sister, Mrs. B. A. (Esta) Snodgrass of Charleston, and four grandchildren. Funeral services were to be held at the home at 3 o'clock Thursday afternoon, with Rev. L. R. Mahoney officiating. Burial was to be at the King cemetery.
