Information: DEATH CLAIMS AGED FARMER - Funeral services were held from the Vail Funeral Home in Ripley on Tuesday afternoon for James M. Landfried, 81 year old retired farmer of Ripley who died at his home in the Sycamore community late Thursday night. The Rev. Frank Caltrider officiated at the service and the burial was in the Pine Hill cemetery. Mr. Landfried was a lifelong resident of Jackson county and was widely known as one of the county's most substantial citizens. He had been in failing health for a long time and in recent weeks his condition had been serious. He was born at Ripley on November 1, 1869, a son of Philip and Sarah Ables Landfried. He was married to Mary Belle Boice who preceded him in death several years ago. Survivors include a son, Cleophas Landfried of Ripley; three daughters, Mrs. Elah Murray of Ripley, Mrs. Macil Flowers of East Liverpool, and Mrs. Lelia Garrett of Ripley; and one brother, County Commissioner A. D. Landfried of Ripley and numerous other relatives. Mr. Landfried had during his long lifetime been one of the county's outstanding civic leaders who was always active in public affairs and was widely known throughout the entire county. He engaged in farming all his life and was the owner of one of the good farms in the Sycamore valley near Ripley.
