Information: Oren V. Kyger, of Gallipolis OH, formerly of Ripley, passed away Friday, June 28, 2002. He was born January 14, 1919, in Ravenswood, and resided in Ripley until 1960, when his family moved to Gallipolis OH. Oren graduated from Ravenswood High School and Marshall University. He served seven years in the U.S. Navy Pacific Fleet, surviving Pearl Harbor. He was awarded 14 battle stars. He taught and coached at Ravenswood High School and at Gallia Academy High School, and Jackson Manpower prior to entering industry as an accountant. He retired at WV Malleable Iron in Point Pleasant. He enjoyed golf, basketball and football. He was active in the Gallipolis community, was a Christian and a member of New Life Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth ""Betty""; sons, Robert, Timothy and Kenneth; grandchildren, Timothy F., Lauren, Jonathan and Christopher Kyger, all of Gallipolis; his brother, Ronald of Huntington; and one sister, Laura of Ravenswood. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Mabel Chambers Kyger. A memorial service was held Tuesday at New Life Lutheran Church in Gallipolis. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the New Life Lutheran Church Building Fund, to the Grace United Methodist Church, or the Gallia County Camp of the Gideons International.
