Obituary Date: 1872-02-28
Information: The deceased was born April.....1797, in Mason County. He united with the Presbyterian church at Point Pleasant under the ministry of Rev. Mr. Dutton, then one of the pioneer Missionaries of that part of the State; this was nearly 38 years ago. He became an Elder in the church in Ravenswood at its organization, and discharged the duties of his office up to the time of his death. A little over half of his life -- time was spent in church. He was a quiet and worthy citizen, and much respected by all who knew him. He had the full exercise of his mental faculties to the last moment, and enjoyed in a high degree the consolations of religion. The master whom he served made soft his last pillow, and gave him a gentle and almost painless exit from his abode in the flesh. Among his last words were these: "" Whatever universalism, or like views, may do for a map in my condition, I know this, that those doctrines which I have held and professed, now...me and make my last hours.........."" The Holy Spirit is hovering near..........fall asleep"" The Jordan is but a shallow stream and thither shore is a shining....and beauty.
