Information: DEATH CLAIMS CLAUDE KING-WIDELY KNOWN MINISTER DIES AT MASSACHUSETTS HOME - Dr. Claude Hurst King, a native of Jackson county, and one of the leading ministers of the Methodist Episcopal church, died at 8 o'clock Monday night, January 27, at his home in East Dennis, Massachusetts, according to word received here by his sister, Mrs. L. M. Parsons, Sr. The youngest child of the late G.S.M. and Caroline Staats King, Dr. King was born on April 13, 1879, near Ripley, and was 62 years old at the time of his death. The minister suffered declining health while pastor of the Bradford, Pa., Methodist Episcopal church, and was compelled to retire. Since that time he has been residing at East Dennis. As a young man of 16, Dr. King began life as a teacher in the schools of Jackson county. Choosing the ministry as his life's work, he entered West Virginia Wesleyan at Buckhannon. After graduating from that school, he subsequently attended and graduated from the Allegheny Theological Seminary in Pennsylvania, and Boston Theological Seminary. He began his active career as a pastor at East Dennis, Mass., and at various charges in West Virginia. Having served as pastor of the First M. E. churches at Parkersburg and Fairmont, in West Virginia, Dr. King was called to the First Methodist church at Muncie, Indiana, from where he went to Bradford, Pa., his last charge. Besides his wife, Elizabeth Hedge King, he is survived by three sons, Claude Hurst King, Jr., of Lowell, Mass.; Joseph Hedge King, of Burbank, Cal.; and George Robert, at home; one daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Lowe Duschmann of Auburn, Me.; three sisters, Mrs. Rufina Hunter, of Athens; and Mrs. L. M. Parsons, Sr., and Mrs. E. L. Cross, of Ripley, and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at East Dennis. Burial was at that place.
