Information: Rayme Kessel, 92, of Ripley passed away Sunday, April 5, 2009, in Roswell, Ga. Born April 28, 1916 in Rockcastle, she was a daughter of the late L. L. and Maggie Hill Morrison. On June 5, 1937, she was married to her husband of 72 years, Willard Kessel, in Ashland, Ky. She attended Marshall College and graduated from Morris Harvey College with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. She was an elementary school teacher in the Jackson County school system, retiring from Ripley Elementary School with 30 years of service. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Ripley, and the Miriam Circle, Delta Kappa Gamma, a retired teacher's sorority, the Ripley Woman's Club and the Jackson General Hospital Auxiliary. Her hobbies were quilting and gardening. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. She is survived by a sister, Edna Kay, of Ripley; a daughter, Ann (Don) McNew of Roswell, Ga.; and four grandchildren, Michael (Nan), Mark (Christy), Kathryn (Scott), and Douglas (Harlan); along with six great-grandchildren, Madison, Matthew, Gracie, Tyler, Sydney and Avery, all of the Atlanta, Ga. area. Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 9, at Calvary United Methodist Church, Ripley, with the Rev. Charles Hicks officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, Ripley. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Vail Funeral Home, Ripley. Parsons-Waybright and Vail funeral homes will be serving the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church.
