Information: ILLNESS IS FATAL TO MRS. KESSEL - Mrs. Ella Corbin Kessel, 80, wife of Edward Dennis Kessel of Parchment, and the mother of Ripley's mayor, Oliver D. Kessel, died at her home Saturday afternoon following a ten weeks illness. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Oliver P. Corbin, who were pioneer residents of the Kenna section of Jackson county. She was one of the well known women of the county and was highly respected and her death came rather unexpectedly to members of the family. She had been ill, but was believed to be at least holding her own until she became much worse Saturday morning and was dead within a few hours. Besides her husband and son, she is survived by the following children: J. Curtis Kessel, Miss Faith Kessel and Mrs. Marie Casto, all of Dunbar; Troy E. Kessel, Charleston; Charles V. Kessel and Mrs. Jane Lathey of Ripley, and Mrs. Zorah Harbert of Hollywood, Fla. She is also survived by two brothers, J. D. Corbin of Kenna and C. M. Corbin of Dunbar and 19 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was a charter member of the Parchment Valley Farm Women's Club and a member of the Pleasant Hill Methodist church at Parchment. The funeral service was conducted at the Pleasant Hill church on Monday afternoon with Rev. R. M. Fuqua officiating and burial with the Parsons undertakers in charge was in the church cemetery. The body was at the funeral home until it was taken to the church.
