Information: Rosalie Koontz Kerwood, 87, of Cottageville WV, passed away peacefully in the arms of her husband, August 12, 2012 in the Ravenswood Village following an extended illness. She was born July 12, 1925 in Charleston WV, a daughter of the late Warren Webster and Blanche Phoebe (Counts) Koontz. Her brothers, John Wesley, Robert Dorn, Floyd Webster, and Richard Lee Koontz, and sisters, Loretta Koontz Full and Luann Koontz, also preceded her in death. Rosalie was a good mother and homemaker. She enjoyed singing gospel music, and began at an early age with her sisters, then, continued throughout her life. In her younger days she was very active in church work, and served as a Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir. In later years she became a member of the Parchment Valley Baptist Church in Ripley. She volunteered as a Grey Lady at Jackson General Hospital and worked with the Red Cross in Pt. Pleasant during the Silver Bridge disaster. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Clifford Kerwood. They married on December 22, 1946 and spent most of their lives in Cottageville. Other survivors include their children, Shiela Kerwood Higgs, Barbara L. Kerwood, and Leshia Kerwood McClure and her husband, Steve, all of Cottageville; grandchildren, Ashley McClure and Joshua McClure and his wife, Diana; great-grandson, Bryce McClure; brothers, Okey (Ruth Ann) Koontz of Sandyville, Ted (Margie) Koontz of Newark, and Fred (Carol) Koontz of Parkersburg; sisters, Eloise (Herbert) Sayre of St. Albans, Janet (John) Hale of Newark, and Betty (Norman) Anderson of Harrisville; and a host of nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends. Service will be 11 am Wednesday, August 15, 2012, at the Parchment Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Herman Robinson and the Rev. Gerald Sayre officiating. Burial will follow in the Blaine Memorial Cemetery, Cottageville. Visitation will be from 6 pm until 8 pm Tuesday at the Casto Funeral Home, Evans Wv.
