Information: John Kenna Kerwood, 53 years old, and postmaster at Ripley, and widely known throughout the state in business and political circles died suddenly at his Ripley home about 1 o'clock Sunday morning. After going home Saturday night, Mr. Kerwood suffered an attack of indigestion. Doctor C. Royal Kessel was called to the home and after giving treatment, Mr. Kerwood soon recovered from the attack and he and Dr. Kessel and Mrs. Kerwood were talking together when he suddenly slumped and when Doctor Kessel rushed to his side he found that he was dead. He was a son of the late W. P. and Martha (Lewis) Kerwood and was a native of Ripley and spent his entire life here. He was also at one time a publisher of the Mountaineer. Mr. Kerwood was one of the first three Jackson County residents to enlist in the United States Army during the World War. He was married to Miss Winnie Casto, of Ripley, on May 14, 1918 in Charleston. He was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Jane Kathleen and Judith Ann; three sons, John Kenna Jr., James Oliver and Joseph Edward, all at home; two sisters, Mrs. Jessie D. Stone, Charleston, and Mrs. E. R. McGugin of Ravenswood; two brothers, W.P. Kerwood, of St. Marys, and L.M. Kerwood, of Parkersburg. The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Epworth United Methodist church with Rev. John Loudin in charge and burial was in the Pine Hill cemetery with the American Legion having a part in the service. All business establishments in town were closed during the funeral services outof respect for the man who had spent a busy life in Ripley. The Mays Mortuary had charge of the arrangements.
