Obituary Date: 1934-03-29
Information: Early Weekly Kerwood, son of James and Sarah Kerwood, was born near Cottageville, Jackson County, April 13, 1881 and departed this life at four o'clock Saturday evening, March 24, 1934; aged fifty two years, eleven months and eleven days. He was united in marriage to Margaret Thomas, May 29, 1901 and to this union were born the following children: Dennis Kerwood of Cottageville, W. Va., Mrs. Inel Newell of Columbus, Ohio, Raymond Kerwood of Cottageville, W. Va. and John Kerwood at home, who with his companion survive him. Also surviving are two brothers, Elijah Kerwood of Portsmouth, Ohio, Elmer Kerwood of Point Pleasant, W. Va., three grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. He joined the Cherry Grove M. E. Church, South, about thirty years ago. Some years following the church burned after which he moved his membership to Creston U. B. Church of which he was a member until his death. He was a faitful Christain, giving the best he had to Christ. He always attended church sevices when he was able but his illness which had lasted for so many years prevented him from attending as much as he would like to have attended. He bore his suffering with a notable patience and now that he is gone, we know he suffers no more but is at rest. He was a kind husband and father and a respected citizen of the community in which he lived, and may we say ""To know him was to love him."" ""Dearest Father, thou hath left us And a voice we loved is stilled A place is vacant in our home Which never can be filled."" Funeral services of Mr. Kerwood were held at his home Monday afternoon by Reverend E. E. Roush, after which burial was made in the Cherry Grove cemetery.
