Information: A former legislator and a former member of the County Board of Education, both widely known citizens and long time neighbors and friends, died within an hour of each other Sunday evening at their Union District homes near Cottageville. One was Eugene Slaughter, 78 year old farmer and former member of the House of Delegates for several terms from this county, and the other was Dudley A. Kay, 75, a member of the first elected Board of Education in this county several years ago. Mr. Kay was born in Angerona, a son of Warren G. and Hester Herdman Kay, on January 3, 1874. He married Emma Donohue, who preceded him in death. Survivors include two sons, Sidney A. Kay of Cottageville and Roy Kay of Proctorville, Ohio, and a daughter, Miss Freda Kay at home. Also surviving are three brothers, John P. Kay of Dunbar, Arval H. Kay of Beaver Falls, Pa., and William R. Kay of Cottageville. Funeral services were held from the Hopewell Baptist Church at Mt. Alto on Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. W. W. Harvey officiating and the burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Slaughter was born at Cottageville on Oct. 24, 1870, a son of Elijah and Simonia Avery Slaughter. On Dec. 22, 1911 he married Miss Francis Harpold, who with the following brothers and sister survive: W. W. Slaughter of El Reno, Oklahoma, B. E. Slaughter of Warren, Ohio, W. H. Slaughter of Detroit and Miss Clara Slaughter, also of Detroit. Funeral services will be held at the Methodist church in Cottageville this (Wednesday) afternoon with the Rev. I. J. McCollum officiating and the burial will be in the Blaine Memorial Cemetery. (Friday, 5 Aug 1949) Kay, Dudley Alton Dudley Alton Kay, son of Warren G. and Hester Herdman Kay, was born at Angerona, Jackson County, January 3, 1874 and departed this life at his home near Mt. Alto, July 31, 1949, age 75 years, 6 months and 27 days. He was united in marriage to Emma R. Donohue on October 19, 1897, and to this union were born three children: Roy R. Kay of Proctorville, Ohio, Freda A. and Sidney A. Kay of Cottageville. Surviving him also are three brothers, William R. Kay of Cottageville, John P. Kay of Dunbar and Arval H. Kay of Beaver Falls, Pa.; four grandchildren, Marie Sturgeon of Ashton, WV, Paul, Dorothy and Thomas Kay of Proctorville, Ohio, and two great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his wife, Emma R. Kay; his parents, three brothers, Charles H. Kay, Warren Edgar Kay and George O. Kay, and two sisters, Oma H. Taylor and Dora M. Kay.
