Obituary Date: 1936-11-13
Information: Charles M. Kay, 73 years old and a retired farmer, died last Friday night at his home in Dunbar after an illness of about two weeks and the body was taken to the Bartlett Mortuary in Charleston and prepared for burial. He was a son of Jacob D. and Hannah Sayre Kay. Mr. Kay was, for many years, a resident of the Foster Chapel section of the county, but moved to Dunbar about 13 years ago where he had since made his home. He is survived by eight sons, Virgil Kay, of Ripley; Lloyd Kay, of Rockcastle; John Kay, of Evans; Orville Kay, Delbert Kay, Shirley Kay, Jesse Kay and Russell Kay, all of Dunbar; four daughters, Mrs. Tina Withrow, Miss Lona Kay, Miss Lettie Kay, and Miss Velma Kay, all of Dunbar; and two brothers, Abraham Kay and Enoch Kay, both of Charleston. Rainy weather and bad roads prevented a number of close friends of the deceased who live in Ripley and vicinity from attending the funeral Sunday afternoon. [Betty Kessel McIntyre obit collection]
