Information: A former professional football player died Monday in General Division, CAMC. William M. Karr, Jr., 68, of Clendenin, former member of the Chicago Bears, died of an apparent heart attack. Karr played for the Bears from 1933 to 1938. His two touchdowns in the 1933 NFL championship game against the New York Giants helped the Bears to a 23-21 victory. A native of Ripley, he was a 1933 graduate of West Virginia University where he was named to an All-Star team. He attended Clendenin United Methodist Church and the J. Stuart Ervin Bible Class. He was a member of the Clendenin Masonic Lodge, York Rite Bodies, Beni Kedem Shrine and the NFL Alumni Association. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He had operated a pool room in Clendenin called the Smoke Shop. Surviving: wife, Jeanne Fleming Karr; sons, David of Ravenswood, William M. III of Elkins; daughters, Mrs. Debbie King of Phoenix, Ariz., Miss Jane Karr, at home; brother, John of Clendenin; sisters, Mrs. Evelyn Kessel of Cocoa Beach, Fla., Mrs. Annabel Howes of Kissimmee, Fla.; four grandchildren. Services were held 1 p.m. Thursday in Clendenin United Methodist Church with the Rev. Randall Prince officiating. Burial with Masonic rites was in Ravenswood Cemetery.
