Information: The Rev. Richard W. Battin, 66, of 708 7th Ave., Parkersburg died at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital Saturday afternoon after a brief illness. He was born in Jackson County, Feb. 25, 1909, son of the late Anna Emerick Battin Boyd and William Wesley Battin. He had served Baptist churches in Wood, Wirt, and Jackson Counties and at the time of his death was the pastor of First Sams Creek Baptist Church and Milhoan Ridge Baptist Church. In 1970, Rev. Battin retired from the O. Ames Corp. after more than 30 years service. Survivors include his wife, Mildred McCartney Battin, one son, Gary of Parkersburg; three daughters, Loretta Knox of Houston, Tex., Freda Harper and Kathryn Harper both of Parkersburg; two brothers, Wesley of Parkersburg and Aaron of Vienna; three sisters, Mary Brown of Parkersburg, Roxie Shockey of Vienna and Charity Johnson of Mesa, Ariz.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother. Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lauckport Baptist Church with the Rev. Ed Hutchinson and the Rev. Cecil Marlow officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery. Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, was in charge of arrangements.
