Information: TOLEDO, OHIO - Richard Keith Batten, 62, of Toledo, formerly of Ripley, W. Va., died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, in Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. He was director of social workers at Herrick Memorial Hospital, Tecumseh, Mich., former director of social work at City Hospital, Martinsburg, W. Va., and former consultant to several care facilities in West Virginia's Eastern Panhandle. He was a graduate of Morris Harvey College, Charleston, W. Va., and completed graduate work at the Universiby of Pittsburgh. He was a field instructor of social work programs for Shepherd College, West Virginia Wesleyan College and the University of Maryland. He was a member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers and the National Association of Social Work. He served on numerous community agency boards, including the Seneca County Transportation Agency, United Way of Fostoria, West Virginia Society of Hospital Social Work Directors and the Eastern Panhandle Diabetes Association. He was a former member of the judges panel for the Berkeley County (W. Va.) Board of Education social studies program. Surviving: wife, Susan Batten; mother, Freda Wedge Batten of Ravenswood, W. Va.; sister, Arlene Kuryla of Ripley, W. Va.; brother, Kenneth of Chesterfield, Va.; several nieces and nephews. Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Epworth United Methodist Church, Ripley, with the Rev. Ken Krimmel officiating. Burial will be in Otterbein Cemetery, Evans, W. Va. Friends may call one hour prior to service at the church. Parsons-Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley, is in charge of arrangements.
