Information: John Henry Jewell, 84 year old farmer of Sycamore, died at his home there last Thursday night as a result of a heart attack. He had been in poor health for some time, but about the middle of last week was believed to be slightly improved. He was a pioneer resident of that section of the county and was one of the successful farmers. The funeral services were held at the home Saturday morning with Rev. J. R. Withrow in charge and the body was brought to the Pine Hill cemetery in Ripley for burial. John Henry Jewell, son of Hamilton and Elizabeth Walters Jewell, was born December 12, 1851 in Montgomery County, Virginia and died May 28, 1936, aged 84 years, 5 months and 16 days. He was married to Miram (?) Agnes Parsons on April 13, 1876 to which nine children were born. He is survived by Jemima Jewell, his third wife; three sons and two daughters, also one brother, four sisters, seven grandsons, one granddaughter, and one great-grandson. He was a member of the M. E. church, South, for nearly half a century. His christian life had been one that makes a monument for him among all who knew him or of him. [from the Betty Kessel McIntyre obit collection]
