Information: Sarah Ellis Gorrell Bates, 77, of Murraysville died Aug. 19, 1988 in Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg. She was born in Jackson County, a daughter of the late Jack and Terrissa Nohe Ellis. She was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church, Murraysville and was a homemaker. She is survived by her husband, Roy Bates; three daughters, Marion Smith and Marie Wilson, both of Belleville and Patsy Pierce of Philadelphia, Pa.; two sons, Eldon Gorrell of McConnellsville, Ohio, and Eugene Gorrell of Parkersburg; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Alonzo Gorrell; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Graveside services were Monday at Ravenswood Cemetery. Straight-Tucker Funeral Home, Ravenswood was in charge.
