  <p>Information: Roy Bates, 75, of Murraysville, died Tuesday, May 9, 1989 at St. Joseph&#39;s Hospital, Parkersburg, after an extended illness. He was born in Jackson County, a son of the late Bert and Ona Flinn Bates. He was a retired lock worker and a veteran. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He was a Protestant. Surviving: daughters; Marion Smith (with whom he made his home), and Marie Wilson, both of Belleville, Patsy Pierce of Philadelphia, Pa.; stepsons, Elden Gorrell of McConnellsville, Ohio and Eugene Gorrell of Parkersburg; brother, Clyde of Wilding, WV; sisters, Carrie Laughlin of Ravenswood, Elsie Parsons of Belleville and Hazel Armstrong of Silverton. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Ravenswood Cemetery with the Rev. Darrell Johnson officiating. There will be no visitation. In lieu of Flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of your choice.</p>
