Obituary Date: 1935-08-09
Information: Funeral services for Mrs. H. C. Hysell, 43, of Ravenswood, were held Monday afternoon at the Epworth Church in Ripley under the directions of Rev. J. R. Mahony and burial followed in the Pine Hill cemetery. Mrs. Hysell's death was sudden last Saturday morning at the Kessel Hospital where she had been a patient for several days. While her condition was serious and there had been little hope for her recovery, death had not been expected so soon and was a shock to the family and friends. Mrs. Hysell, who was the former Dixie Kerwood, a daughter of the late W. P. Kerwood and Mrs. Kerwood, of Ripley, served as postmistress at Ripley during the war while her brother, J. K. Kerwood, served in the Army. She was the only woman to hold that office here. She was a native of Ripley and spent the greater part of her life in the town. She is survived by the husband, H. C. Hysell; two children, Helen Lee and H. C. Hysell, Jr., both at home and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Jessie D. Stone of Charleston; W. P. Kerwood of St. Marys; J. K. Kerwood of Ripley; Lore M. Kerwood of Parkersburg; and Mrs. E. R. McGugin of Ravenswood. [from the Betty Kessel McIntyre collection]
