Information: Mrs. David F. Hyre, one of Jackson county's oldest residents, died Tuesday afternoon at her home near Mt. Olive at the age of 93. Mrs. Hyre who was one of the few living in the county whose life span stretched back to the time when this section was in its pioneer stage, had been in ill health and bedfast for the past year. She was born in Mason County March 1, 1847, departed this life at her home March 5, 1940, age 93 years and 4 days. She was a daughter of George and Elizabeth Roush. She is survived by her husband, now in his 91st year, a son, Opie, of Ripley, and a daughter, Mrs. Otmer Parsons, of Liverpool. A son, Everett, preceded her in death. Funeral services were held at the home at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon with Rev. C. D. Lear officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Olive cemetery with the Vail Mortuary in charge. (Herald March 8, 1940) Sarah Ann Roush Hyre was born in Mason county March 1, 1847, departed this life at her home March 5, 1940, age 93 years, 4 days. She was a daughter of Elizabeth and George Roush of Mason county. She was united in marriage to David Franklin Hyre December 22, 1874. To this union was born five children: Lellea, Eldia, Elizabeth, Eunia, and Opie. Three, Elizabeth, Eldia and Eunia have outrun her in the race for the Great Beyond. There remains to mourn their loss a husband, two children, Mrs. Lellea Parsons and Opie Hyre, both of this county; six grandchildren, Russel Parsons, Edwin Parsons, Kermit and Guy Hyre, of this county, Raymond Parsons of Washington D. C., Herbert Hyre of Nitro, W. Va. and two great-grandchildren, James Parsons and Gene Hyre, besides a host of friends and relatives in this and Mason county. She was converted in early life and has been a member of the Methodist church at Mt. Olive for many years and died in a living faith. She was an affectionate wife and a loving mother.
