Information: D. F. HYRE DIES WEEK AFTER WIFE - The wife and husband, two of the county's aged and well-known citizens, passed in less than a week of each other. D. R. Hyre, age 91, died at his home near Ripley Monday, which followed the death of the wife, (Sarah Ann Roush) who was 93 years old, on Tuesday (March 5, 1940) of the week before. Considering his age, Fr. Hyre had been in very good health until the death of Mrs. Hyre. He took to his bed following her death and never recovered. Mr. and Mrs. Hyre had been life long citizens of the county. Mrs. Hyre was born in Mason county but following her marriage she spent the rest of her life in the old home, near Ripley. Mr. Hyre was born where he lived all of his life. The house occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Hyre was of stone and was built by his father and he and Mrs. Hyre spent their long married life in it and they both passed from it at near the same time. Mr. and Mrs. Hyre were two of the well-known citizens of the county. Mr. Hyre was a very successful farmer and cattle grower. He was much respected for his sense, honesty and integrity. They are survived by only one son, Opie Hyre and a daughter, Mrs. Otmer Parsons. (Interment at Mt. Olive Cemetery)
