Information: A Jackson County woman who served as a midwife and delivered more than 300 babies in her ommunity, died Sunday at Jackson General Hospital after an extended illness. Mrs. Pretho P. Hunt of Romance, the wife of Romie Hunt, peformed not only midwife duties in the community, but she also cared for the sick and needy. Born March 8, 1898, in Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Parthena Smith Whetherholt and Edgar Whetherholt. Funeral services were held Tuesday in Parsons Funeral Home, Ripley, with the Rev. Noble Harper officiating. Burial was in Fisher Community Cemetery. Survivors , in addition to her husband, includes sons, Camden of Gaithersburg, Md., and Carroll of Columbus, Ohio; daughters, Mrs. Virgie Bowman of Georgesville, Ohio, Mrs. Ruth Elington of Mineral Wells, Texas, and Mrs. Lois Bowman of Grove City, Ohio; brothers, Daris Whetherholt of Gallipolis Ferry, Raleigh Whetherholt of Glenford, Ohio; sisters, Mrs. Chloda Evans of Pensacola, Fla, Mrs. Nada Plantz, Mrs. Truba Wears and Mrs. Ruby Wears, all of Troy, Ohio and Mrs. Mauda Stephens of Columbus, Ohio; 12 grandchildren and eigh great-grandchildren.
