Death Notice:

Obituary Date: 1965-06-18

Information: William Robert Barr Jr., 37 year old farmer of near Given, took his life by shooting Sunday afternoon. He called the Sheriff and told him what he planned to do, but was urged to wait until the official could reach his home and have a talk about the situation.  A short time later he called again and said he was going through with his plan and to send “Edison Parsons and tell him I want to be buried at Foster Chapel.”  The next call advised officials that Barr, who lived on a farm owned by Dr. C. Royal Kessel, near Given, was dead of a .22 caliber bullet which had entered the forehead.  He left no note explaining why he was ending his life.  Surviving are his widow, Helen Casto; a son, Don and a daughter, Linda both at home; four brothers, Arthur of Chester, Ohio, Ray of Leon, Dale of Edmond, Okla., and Basil of Walker; four sisters, Mrs. Nellie Casto of Parkersburg, Mrs. Edith Boone of Mansfield, Ohio, Mrs. Ines Parsons of Rockcastle and Mrs. Delores Rowley of Ripley; his mother, Mrs. Flora Casto of Rockcastle. The funeral service was held at Foster Chapel Tuesday with Rev. Vairl Winter officiating and the burial was in the church cemetery.  Officers when they went to the Barr home found him dead in the backyard just as he had told the Sheriff he would.
