  <p>Information: Memorial services were conducted Thursday at Ogdin Funeral Home for Sterling G. Hughes, 85, formerly of Parkersburg, who had moved to Houston, Texas to reside with his daughter, Mrs. Colleen H. Able, and died Sept. 20, 1978 in Houston.  He was born in Cottageville, to the late Elmore and Renna Harpold Hughes.  He was a veteran of World War I, a member of the Mount Olivet Masonic Lodge No. 3, Scottish Rite Bodies, was a life member of Parkersburg Chapter No. 14, Order of the Eastern Star, a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church and was retired from the Wood County Board of Education.  He is also survived by a grandson, Douglas Deane Abel of Houston, Texas.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Violetta O. Hughes.  Officiating the service was the Rev. Charles Roth.</p>
