Death Notice:

Obituary Date: 1935-06-21

Information: C. W. Hughes, well known farmer of Big Spruce, was found dead in his bed last Friday morning by his daughter, who went to wake him when he failed to get up at his usual time.  He was 68 years old.  He had retired as usual on Thursday night and was apparently in his usual health so far as members of the family knew.  It appeared that he had died without a struggle during his sleep.  Only he and his younger daughter were home and it was the daughter who made the discovery that he had passed away.      He is survived by six children:  Mrs. Iva Hartley of Cottageville; Ola and Dorsey Hughes and Mrs. Minner Ross, all of Parkersburg; Mrs. Dora Barnett of Rockcastle; and Miss Nellie Hughes, at home.  His wife and two children preceded him in death.  Among the surviving relatives are one brother, three sisters and 10 grandchildren.  The funeral services were held at Big Spruce schoolhouse Sunday with Rev. Grady in charge and interment was in the Spruce cemetery.   [from the Betty Kessel McIntyre obit collection]
